CARL BECKER

After graduation from the University of Miami I worked for the General Development Corp. of Florida. I became Senior Project Manager over the construction of the Port St. Lucie Hilton Hotel, Sports Pavillion and condominiums. I later moved to Houston where my sister was living and I now live. Obtained my CPA and went to work for a Fortune 500 Oil & Gas exploration company, Geosource, as exploration division CFO. The position gave my wife Diane and I some great travel opportunities in the U.S., Europe and Canada. I later became CFO for 2 related international industrial construction companies. I sold my interest in one and still work with the other. I hold commercial and industrial contractor's licenses in several states. I have also built a financial consulting practice over 24 years. Diane , my wife of 36 years, is retired from working in cancer research in Houston. Our immediate and extended family are spread out and live in TX, NC, GA, NY & FL. Over the years we have enjoyed our family; watching them grow and achieve their goals, as a foremost accomplishment. We have enjoyed travel and remodeling houses. I have always had an interest in collector cars as a hobby. I have bought, sold, appraised and restored collector cars and judge in shows.

Since high school I guess I have become more outgoing like many people have said in their stories. In those days I spent most of my time working for my dad and going to school .Tom Cielesz (also class of '68) is still a best friend and we talk frequently. Fondest memories of high school are hanging out at Hot Shoppes with other PHS guys and their cars (I especially liked Jay Kaiser's '68 Chevelle SS396). Went to some rock concerts, and live performances at hotels on Miami Beach.

CINDY (MOYER) WILLET

I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do after graduation so I decided to live with my aunt and uncle in Ohio to see if there was a life there for me. I found a job  with a wholesale drug company. I started out taking orders from pharmacists. My boss saw something in me and sent me to business school. I became his personal secretary, and he taught me everything there was to know about the business. I worked my way up the ladder and finally became the purchasing agent. I retired in 2016 after 48 years.

I married my second husband in 1980. He was a sales rep that called on me. He’s now an electrician with his own company. Unfortunately I was unable to have children but we spend as much time as we can with our nieces and nephews and their families. My parents are both gone, my sister Vicki lives in Minnesota, and Terry lives in Homestead.

Before I retired I was a purchasing agent.   My most significant achievement was working for the same company for 48 years.

Since high school I hope I have grown as a person and that I am an influence on others.

My fondest high school memory is being in the band.

I  am blessed to have three children: Lee Jr. (Merri), Erik (Camilla), and Laura (Derek) Ross with classmate Lee Popham. All three graduated from Palmetto as did my son-in-law, Derek. We have four grandchildren: Lorelei 11,  Dain 8, London 5, and Beckham 7 months.

I sold residential and commercial real estate with Essie Glee Wooten Maxwell for many years in Miami. I currently have a license in Florida and North Carolina. I also custom design jewelry, and I am featured in boutiques such as the Grove Park Inn and Woolworth Wall in Asheville and Highlands, NC.

I value being a mother of three children and four grandchildren as the most significant achievement in my life. They have given me joy, love, and lots of fun.  I    have done a lot of volunteer work such as President of Barton Ravlin Women’s Cancer Association from UM, Beaux Arts from UM, and the Junior League of Miami.

I realize that friendships are very special and hard to find. I am happy to reconnect with old friends. I treasure my relationships with family, friends, and my faith.

My best memories from high school are all  the amazing people that were at Palmetto. I have so many memories of fun with Chatonettes.

I'm married, with three children.  I   graduated from USF after high school.  I've been in some form of law enforcement now for over 40 years. I retired from the State of Florida as a LEO, and I am still doing investigative work and teaching martial arts. I still enjoy weightlifting and working on/modifying cars.

I was married for 13 years and had two boys. I never remarried. BJ (41) is a high school teacher and baseball coach in Denver. He blessed me with my grandson, Carson, five years ago. A second blessing is due in October. My other son, Michael (38) is an actor, photographer, and artistic director at The Shelter Theatre Company (developing new work) in NYC. They are amazing human beings!

Before I retired I was a talent agent.

My most significant achievement is, of course...my boys! In addition, after surviving the crazy 60s and 70s I made a decision to clean up my act. With now thirty years of sobriety I have had the opportunity to help others travel that path. I built a successful business which I sold last year. I have now retired in beautiful Creede, CO!

Since high school I have a more heightened awareness of other people and their struggles.

What I remember most from high school is my friends, many of whom I have stayed in contact with or have reunited with in recent years. I'm sorry I wasn't able to come to the reunion. Kris Kauffman...I would love to hear from you and catch up on the last 50 years!

ROBERT LATIMER

After graduation I  played freshman football for the University of Florida Gators. I was the only Palmetto football player in our class to play for the Gators. Incredibly, our freshman coach years later became the head coach of the NFL Green Bay Packers. I had been playing organized football since age 7, so for nine years total in addition to five years of little league baseball. I always loved music and played the trombone in 7th through 9th grades at Cutler Ridge Junior High. I got my first guitar at age 15 and was determined to become a highly accomplished guitarist and musician. I played in the Gainesville band "Beloved," which was voted the #5 band in the state at a 7-11 corporate sponsored competition, with Robert Crawford who had played in Tom Petty's first band. I played with "Beloved" on the east coast circuit. I was subsequently hired as the "artist in residence" to live and perform in the Daytona Beach Hilton hotel on contract in 1975. In 1978 I moved to Houston, Texas, and had good success there as a solo classical guitar artist. I performed at legendary Rockefellers Concert Hall where the likes of B.B. King, Johnny Winter, etc., performed, as well as playing lead guitar in bands. In 1990 I moved to San Diego, California, where I performed as the lead guitarist with a CBS records national recording artist with a hit song, headlined the main room at a major casino, 5-star resorts, NFL stadiums, the main room at the Convention Center, country clubs, yacht clubs and many other premier southern California venues. I was able to retire early and have been living in north central Florida for the last four years. I currently perform as a singer/guitarist at country clubs and top venues in the area.

When I was 16, I saved a man's life when he was drowning. My parents had a pool and I was always swimming, surfing and athletic, which was helpful.   In addition to football and music, I have also been a successful licensed financial professional (Series 6 & Series 63) with hundred of clients.   I'm proud   that I played    football for the Florida Gators and was in the huddle with John Reaves, who was a 1st round NFL draft choice.

When I was 13, I won an all expenses paid, one full week, trip to New York on the train as a newspaper boy with the Miami News. Out of the 60 winners throughout all of Miami, I had the #5 most new subscriptions to the newspaper.

The Gainesville Sun newspaper published a full page article about my music including a quarter-page photo of me.

I played lead guitar on ABC television with a national recording artist with a hit song, being a recording artist myself and having a very long, exciting, interesting and successful professional music career.

I learned to speak Spanish fluently.  I was a good son to my parents and a good brother to my sisters. I  have been a good, honest, and loyal friend. I've never had any surgeries or health issues, I'm in perfect health and very happy!

Since high school, I am still 6'2 tall and 195 pounds; the same as at PHS so no change there.   As a professional musician and no longer a football player, my hair has always been quite a bit longer! lol

What I remember most from high school is having played 1st string right defensive end (#85) for our 1967 and 1968 football teams. You might remember that 1967 was very special as we ended the year ranked #4 in the state with only one loss, by just one point, although we did also tie two games. We even beat Coral Gables that year.   In 1968 we won six games and lost four games so had another winning season. I had a great time   as    the coach of one of the girls' "Powder Puff" flag football teams.

MICHAEL CHAVEZ

We were an Air Force family until my Dad retired to Miami in 1966, so I did not attend any of the local schools until then. I was fortunate to have attended my Junior and Senior years at Palmetto. My folks recently passed away a couple of years ago, and my two sisters still live in Florida, one in Miami.

Before I retired, I was an elevator engineer and chief elevator Inspector.

Since high school, I've  gotten fatter, but wiser. I finally matured enough not to be a "wise guy" all the time.

My most vivid memory from high school was the teachers strike. I had a very interesting part time job in my senior year: repossessing cars in various places in Miami and the Keys. It certainly kept me from getting into mischief.

I've been married for 40 years. My wife deserves a medal! My daughter Emily and son Matt both live in NYC; one is a public defender and one is General Counsel at an ad agency. We raised them in Pinecrest. They went to Pinecrest Elementary, Palmetto Middle, and Palmetto High. It was the best school district when we all went there, and it's still the best.

I'm a CPA and still working.

Some of my achievements are helping establish accounting principles for the condominium and homeowner association industry, and building a CPA practice with clients in many industries. I became a marathon runner and am still at it. Thirty years ago I co-founded the annual CPA 1040K, a 5K and 10K run to raise scholarships for South Florida college students majoring in accounting.

I guess we all thought we were so smart and mature back in high school but little did we know about life’s challenges.  In a way the current geopolitical situation feels a little like the late 60s. Do you all remember the bomb threats and even the small one that went off at PHS? For those of you living in South Florida, we grew up as Miami grew to be a major international city. My appreciation for Miami and South Florida has never been greater.

Some fond memories from high school are football games and pep rallies. I remember getting passes to the library for air conditioning breaks. We were pegged by LOOK Magazine as the school with spoiled brats. I'll never forget Mr. Bragg’s orchestra class and his lessons on life. I remember the F that Ms. Campbell gave me in history. Dedication by Coach Dorsheimer.   I    remember  the freedom that we didn’t appreciate back then, like skipping that awful cafeteria lunch and taking my Mustang (with some of you) to Burger King or to Seven Eleven.

HARRY REID

I am still happily married to Susie (Morrow) Reid. We will be celebrating our 50th anniversary in July. We have two children, Ty and Christy; five grandchildren: Jessica (17), Colton (16), Kendall (15), Carlee (14) and Grayson (4), plus an additional four step grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. All get along great, support and love each other and are best friends. We are truly blessed. I was a police officer with Coral Gables while attending law school at U of Miami. My wife became a registered nurse, but is now retired. My daughter became an attorney and practiced with me for a while but when her husband Tony opened up a new mortgage brokerage she went to assist him, got her mortgage brokerage license, and stayed in that business. My son was a deputy sheriff with Orange County, FL, and then with Guilford County, NC, until he recently moved down here, obtained his mortgage brokerage license and joined his sister with their company. My granddaughter Jessica is graduating high school Summa Cum Laude   this year and will be attending UCF this fall. Colton, Kendall and Carlee will still be in high school and Grayson will be entering school this year. We are so proud of all of them.

I'm an attorney at law, still practicing, and I hope to get it right soon. I am unable to retire so long as my wife, kids and grands have their passion for horses.

My most significant achievement has been surviving the past 50 years and still being above ground. I'm proud of my family. I enjoy a good life and hopefully I am a good example for my descendants to follow. I've met life and its challenges head on and have accrued  great experiences and memories. I've kept a great sense of humor. I feel I am able to leave this life with no regrets and having had a good run.

Since high school I've grown up and am more able to handle responsibilities. I complete tasks that I start. I'm more self assured. I have more empathy, I'm less selfish. I'm more caring, more accepting, more forgetful. And, I'm very thankful.

My memories from high school include parties, dates, great friends, good teachers, being carefree and out for a good time. Palmetto in 1966-1968 was very advanced and fast for its time, and we were lucky to have been part of it.

My father passed away in 1981, my mom passed in 2016.  My sister is an art professor at Stonehill College, in a Boston suburb.

I am still restoring old cars. I  take pride in  bringing the past back to life.

I don't think I've  changed much since high school.

What I remember from high school: Mrs. Detournilion really did teach chemistry; carpooling with Brad Copley and Chip Kinsey; being in the band and having to go to every football game.

I am remarried and have two children and four grandchildren.

My most significant achievements are my children and the fact that I'm still alive!

Since high school I've gotten older.

What I best remember from high school is the LOOK magazine article and modern dance class.

I  have one sister, two nephews, two great-nephews and one great-niece, one great-great niece, and my mother of 93 years young. Most of the family, except my Mom and myself, are in Missouri. We are currently in Homestead, Fl. with a second home in Townsend, TN.

Before I retired, I was president of a residential mortgage company for a local bank. I still own Feather Mountain Log Cabins.

My significant achievements are Chairman of the South Dade Chamber of Commerce and  Chairman of the Homestead/Florida City Military Affairs Committee, which allowed me to work on my bucket list.

I have flown as a passenger in an F-16, parachuted with the Golden Knights, and have taken a civic tour to the Air Force Academy at graduation and to other bases.   I'm a volunteer at our Historic Seminole Theatre in Homestead. I purchased land in Townsend, TN, and built four log cabins for resort rentals.

Since high school I've become more outgoing and not as shy. Heavier, of course!

I best remember Ms. Wayne's biology class, geometry and all the fun   happenings.

In February, my wife Judy and I will be married 40 years. We have two son and two grandsons. Matthew, 37, a UF grad, is married to Jaime (Gabor) and they have Justin, 6, and Zachary, 2. They just moved from West Orange NJ to Delray Beach where Matthew is Assistant Counsel for Home Depot. Jonathan, 33, also a Gator, is Supply Chain and Logistics Manager, Asia, for NCL. He has been working out of their office in China for the past year, but we are hoping he will be back in Miami soon.

We love to travel and went all over with our kids when they were growing up. Now since we are both retired, (Judy from Dade County Public Schools) we have been able to take some wonderful trips. Last summer we were in Iceland and Greenland.

Both of my parents have passed away, but I have fond memories of our hydroponic tomato and strawberry farm next to the Serpentarium, the site of today's Pinecrest City Hall.

Before I retired I was Assistant Director of Promotions and Advertising, Port Miami.

I am proud of the fact that one of my photographs in currently in the Smithsonian's American History Museum. Also, my '49 Cadillac was in the movie "Porky's!"

Since high school I certainly think I am much more outgoing now than I was back then.

I have always loved cars, so I really remember what everyone drove to school. I also worked on the newspaper and that was a great time for me.

John and I married in 1970. We have lived in Valdosta, Savannah, Atlanta, and now Valrico, a suburb of Tampa, since 1986. We have five children, four are married. We have eleven grandchildren. We own a real estate company based in Tampa with another office in Jacksonville Beach. We both love our Miami memories and friends from there, but our families did not remain in Miami so we have seldom been back. I do wish I could be there this weekend but we have a wedding of an employee to attend. It sounds like the committee has done a great job.

I am still working as a real estate broker.

My most significant achievement is launching five kids and helping them become productive, loving people! I'm also proud of having opened our own real estate company in the worst market in 2009 at my son's request, and being in business with them. I'm very grateful for my good husband. Marrying him was the best decision ever!

I don't think I've changed much since high school.

My most vivid memory from high school is our senior year when we watched the world change through assassins. It was a crazy time to grow up.

After living in Florida all my life, my career in insurance offered me an opportunity to move to Atlanta in 1976. I was back home in Orlando for the holidays and met my future husband, Rick, at a Christmas party. I eventually moved back to Orlando for work and romance. Rick and I married in 1981 and lived in the Orlando area until 1987 when we had a business opportunity that took us to Oklahoma City. Rick had grown up in Oklahoma but living in the Midwest was a big change for me. We sold the business in 1999 and moved back to Florida to figure out what we wanted to do with the rest of our life together (I am still trying to figure that out, but having fun along the way). Oklahoma had been a good move and business decision for us but we were glad to be back in Florida.

I had a career in the Insurance industry and I was also a business owner.

Besides my achievements in the insurance industry, having a successful business career, and a successful marriage, some of my other memorable achievements were: Racing a Porsche in SCCA, being the State Director for the 1992 Ross Perot Presidential Campaign in Oklahoma, appearing on CNN as well as various TV and radio stations during the campaign, attending the first Presidential Debate in 1992, and being appointed to several committees by the Governor of Oklahoma. When we sold the business we spent six months cruising the Abacos and Eleuthera on our boat; which was a great way to ease into our retirement years.

Since high school I have become less shy. I have learned that there are no guarantees in life so I try to keep a positive attitude, stay healthy, and take time to laugh every day. I have been truly blessed in life with family, friends, and my career. My philosophy is if there is something I would like to do as long as I can physically, mentally, and financially do it – go for it because we never know what   tomorrow  will bring. So I take the time to enjoy traveling with my family and friends as much as I can. I guess you can say since I had not been out of the state of Florida until I was 16 I have been making up for lost time traveling around the US, the Caribbean, Mexico and Europe. I have many destinations still on my bucket list.

I have so many great memories of hanging out with friends in high school, but I think the most memorable was once we all got our drivers license and were able to drive. I remember the freedom of going to Dadeland, Matheson Hammock, Key Biscayne, South Beach to surf, football games, Royal Castle for lunch with friends. Also remember the slumber parties and sneaking out to T-P someone’s home. Life was truly good growing up in South Miami. Oh, to be 18 again?

I married my high school sweetheart and best friend, Jay Maltby. We will celebrate our 50th anniversary next March. Our children and grandchildren in the photo are from left to right: our daughter with her husband and their two girls, our son with his wife and their two boys and a girl, and our daughter with her husband and their three girls. Our two older children graduated from Palmetto High School. I was a teacher at Palmetto High School when we moved to Palm Beach Gardens in 1995, where our youngest daughter finished school. I never went back to work and Jay will never retire. He left Bacardi as vice-president and CFO when we moved to Palm Beach Gardens to run another company. We divide our time between our homes in Florida and Colorado.

A picture tells a thousand words.  I have been married to Dale Howard Auten for 45 years.  We met at FSU. We have one daughter, 39, Sara Auten Cowley, married for 13 years to Matthew David Cowley, formerly of Panama City Fl. They have two sons-Emmett, 10, and Van, 7.

Before I retired, I taught elementary education in public schools in FL , NC, and GA. Dale is a former educator and vice-principal. He left the profession to become an airline pilot.  He chased jobs, and we moved, until we settled in Atlanta with Eastern Airlines, then Airborne Express. Dale is now retired.

Interesting fact:  My father, father-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, and husband  were all airline pilots. (Mother briefly also in 1930's, and daughter after college were also private pilots)  Me?  I was a great passenger, co-pilot, and avid traveler.

I   love hiking, swimming, reading, and spending time with family and friends.  Also cooking, when I have time to be relaxed with it.

My greatest pleasures in life:  My faith, and my family. I suppose a lot of us will be talking about our grandchildren!!

My greatest accomplishment was being a public school teacher. Getting to where I am in life: emotionally, spiritually, physically, and mentally.

Since high school I have learned to hold back my exuberance, when appropriate!

I am still the Camille I was in H.S. but more grown up. That means I have learned to control my thoughts better,  and be a positive and grateful influence in this life, through various ministries and helping friends and family in times of need.

My most memorable recollections from high school: Oh, my Gosh, so many!!!  Mostly, all the wonderful people I grew up with and went to school with. I also enjoyed all the groups and clubs I was involved with at school, and extracurricular activities.

LIBBY (BERKIN) AXE

My husband Joe and I have been married for 43 years. We have been blessed with two adult children. My son, Joey and his wife, Meg, have three sons-Vincent, 13, William, 10, and Sam, 9. They live just two miles from us, so we get to see them often. With three grandsons that's a lot of sports! My daughter Jami and her husband Jake live in North Carolina. They have a son, Colin, 6, and a daughter, Claire, 5. Jake is currently stationed in North Carolina and is a Major in the Army. What makes our family even more unique is that Meg and Jake are also brother and sister.

Before I retired, I was an ophthalmic technician at the Univ of Minnesota.

My greatest accomplishments are my family and joining the Air Force and learning to be an Air Traffic Controller. I used my GI bill to go to college and worked in the eye field from assisting in surgery to teaching college students at the University of Minnesota.  I retired in 2013. Go Gophers!

Since high school  I have gained wisdom, and don't take life for granted. It's important to me to know that you cannot take material things and money with you when you leave this world.  God, family, and friends are the most important!

My fondest memory from high school is hanging out with my friends, especially Nancy Duckworth, who still is my friend after 50 years. I also remember Soiree functions.

MARTHA HENRY

I never married, and I live with my pet pug in a Manhattan apartment.  I am close to my two nieces and five nephews. When I attended Palmetto, I was the eldest of four.  My father was a lawyer and my mother was a housewife who later became an elementary school teacher in my senior year.

I am a fine art dealer, appraiser, and curator (not retired). I specialize in African American and Self-Taught Art. I took four African American self-taught artists to Venice to make an exhibition, "Roots of the Spirit," during the Venice Biennale (the art world's version of the Olympics) in 2011.  We were initially sponsored by the American Folk Art Museum with funding from the Ford Foundation.

I  curated a show "Welcome to the World of Mr. Imagination" for the Chicago Museum "Intuit: Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art" in 2015.  It was voted one of the top 10 shows in the US in the year 2015. I curated  a show and wrote a catalog "Art From the Inside: Pano Drawings by Chicano Prisoners" which was singled out by "Museum," the magazine for the American Alliance of Museums.  Later in 2013 some of them were included in the Venice Biennale, and press advised them as "not to be missed." I owned Slate, an  art gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, from 2006 to 2010.

As in high school, I still love to party with my friends-but now I also love to work.

My best memories from high school are  friends!  Hanging out in the parking lot with my friends after school and sometimes during school.  Skipping school with my friends and going to the beach or to the Grove.  Driving around the Palmetto neighborhood with my girlfriends with the radio blasting.  Going to lunch at Shorty's or the French fry place up the road.  Listening to records.  Going to dances. Spending Saturdays at Dadeland  mall with friends.

My fondest memory  from high school is   meeting and maintaining wonderful women friendships.

My most significant accomplishment was earning my Library Science degree from FSU and becoming a professor at Miami Dade College for a 37-year career. I still work part time at my college.

For many years I was an avid scuba diver. My biggest accomplishment was making a dive to 130 feet on the wall in the Cayman Islands!

Since high school I have gained some weight, my hair is more grey...I am a lot more relaxed now.

My fondest memory from high school is having good friends.

My family consists of my husband of 21 years, Art Siegel, an employment attorney representing plaintiffs, and a series of cats. We always have two so they can keep each other company while we're at work (yes, we both still work!).  We have both lived in San Francisco since we graduated college. Both of us were late bloomers and had never married until we married each other at  age 46. We hold season tickets to the San Francisco Giants and go to lots of games during the season. We  also enjoy socializing with friends, and traveling. We love living in San Francisco and take advantage of what the city has to offer: a wide variety of cultural activities, easily accessible wilderness areas, and lots of interesting people.  Our main source of entertainment is hearing live music-I am a Deadhead and have been to 250 Grateful Dead concerts, and Art's a Van Morrison fan. We've attended over 100 Van concerts over the years, in the US and in Europe. I'd  guess I've been to over 1000 rock concerts since age 14 when I saw the Zombies at the Miami Beach Auditorium in 1964.

I am a psychotherapist in private practice. I see individual adults for longterm depth psychotherapy,   and I also work with couples. My mom used to say she could hear me on the phone after school, giving dating advice to my friends. I guess I was born to do this work!

My most significant achievement was going to grad school at age 35 to become a therapist. I shed my "good girl" image from high school when I went to college at UF and became a hippie party girl, which lasted well into my 30s. I moved to San Francisco on a whim a week after I graduated, and it was the best thing I ever did.  Living in San Francisco in the 70s and 80s was a real adventure!
It was a magical time in history, being on the cutting edge of so much cultural upheaval.   I had a lot of fun and many wild and interesting experiences, but I had no ambition or direction. I finally got it together and went to grad school where I did very well. I still like to have fun, but I take my work very seriously and have been very successful.  I'm glad it's a job that I can keep doing even as I age, as it provides a great deal of  personal satisfaction for me in ways I never imagined.

Like so many of us, I was an insecure teenager and didn't have a lot of self-confidence. I think I fooled people, nevertheless I worried a lot about dating (or rather, not dating), and not being "cool" enough. In high school I wanted to be in Tao-Ti! It took many years of working on myself, success in grad school and in my career, and age to turn all that around. Now, I'm more self-confident, opinionated (some say too much so!), and feel more entitled to inhabit my place in the world. In most ways I'm still the same: very social, very active, and always ready for fun!

Being a Chatonette in junior and senior year was my most memorable high school experience.  Being part of a team of such great girls was really fun, and I made friends I never would have known otherwise. I had good friends in high school, many of whom are still in my life. I have fond memories of slumber parties, going to the Tiger's Den, hanging out at Dadeland, and  long lazy days on the beach at Matheson Hammock. I got my drivers' license the day I turned 16 and my life changed forever. I was so happy to have my freedom (and thankful that my mom let me use her car on Saturday nights). I will never forget seeing Bob Dylan at the Miami Beach Auditorium with Daryl Martin in 1965; it blew my mind!  Daryl moved to California and I visited her there in the summer of 1967, the Summer of Love. What a time! We went to San Francisco for the weekend. I was wearing my little Villager outfit and  my Capezios, walking on Haight Street among the hippies in tie-dye and  bellbottoms.   Somehow, though, I felt I belonged, and here I am, 50 years later!

My family consists of wife Judy and two sons, William and Zachary. William is married to Amber and they have our only granddaughter, Austin. They live in Atlanta where he is Director of Special Events for Woodward Academy. Zachary lives in Brooklyn with his girlfriend, Andi. He is lead guitarist for the rock group American Authors (Best Day of My Life fame). He is gone many days per year. Judy is a retired nurse and CIO from St. Vincent's Hospital. We live in Erie, PA which is a great place to live. We get down to South Florida three or four times per year.

Before I retired, I was in   healthcare IT startups.

My most significant accomplishments, besides Judy and the kids, are being healthy, sometimes wealthy, and wise. We made good business decisions which have allowed us to have a comfortable life and  make some positive contributions to society.

Since high school I haven't    changed much. I still have a positive outlook on things and treat  people the way I would like to be treated. I certainly have learned from my mistakes and fortunately have not duplicated too many of them! I still learn something every day and look forward to waking up the next morning.

Besides hanging out with all my friends, graduation was my most memorable recollection. I was really looking forward to going to college. I got into Georgia Tech and was looking forward to getting away, going to a real sports town at the time, and getting into technical courses with other folks who shared that same passion. Obviously, I could not do that until I graduated. Looking forward to seeing everyone in May.

VALORY GREENFIELD

I am married to Robert Sherrin, an optometrist in Plantation, FL. I have two sons from my first marriage,   Adam Snetman and David Snetman, as well as two "bonus" sons, Zachary Sherrin and Cody Sherrin, by virtue of my marriage to Robert. My son David lives in Queens, NY. My son Adam is married to Sarah Graff. They also live in Queens where they busily parent my ever-active twin 2.5 year old grandchildren, Lola Jo and Jaime Bernard.  Robert's son Cody lives in Jacksonville, and his other son Zachary lives in Tampa with his fiancé, Brandon.

I am a public interest attorney, currently working part-time on a statewide legal helpline for low income seniors. I became a terrific single mother in 1980 and raised two wonderful children. Along the way I became active in a community theater group where I met some dear friends, many of whom are still in my life today. In 2005, I began studying improv and developed yet another affinity group as well as a lasting philosophy for life ("yes, and..."). In 2013, I happened to find love again and that has added immeasurably to the quality of my life. And, finally, I was lucky enough to find fulfilling work in 2015 when I was laid off from an 18-year career as a legal services statewide expert on public benefits and administrative law.

The greatest change since high school is that I'm more in touch with some fundamental truths, principles that comprise my core. These were in the formative stages when I was in high school and matured along with me in the intervening 50 years. I am more sure of my opinions and yet quite sure that there is plenty I'm not sure about. In other words, I know enough to know there is much I don't know. And then there are the more concrete changes. For example, I now know how I take my martini.

My best memories from high school are co-hosting Panther Prowl my senior year, being the Silver Knight nominee in drama, and finding unconditional love and acceptance with a group of cohorts I fondly call the Panther Campers.

I'm fortunate that my father is still living and is now 95 years young.  My daughter married last year, and she and her husband live in Topanga Canyon, CA, a bit too far for my liking. I'm not a grand-mom yet but hope to become one this year.  Lucky for me, my sister Autumn lives in Coconut Grove, not far from Pinecrest, where I've been living for over 30 years.

I am the  Executive Director for assisted living and independent living facilities for older adults.

My greatest achievement was transitioning from career as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines (18 years) and going back to school when EAL folded. I earned a Bachelors degree in Healthcare Administration, Summa Cum Laude, and obtained a Nursing Home Administrator license, insurance license, and real estate license.

Since high school I have  matured, of course!

My best memories from high school are my friends of course, but typing and home economics classes were significant for me: typing skills got me my first job as a secretary at Eastern, and learning to sew enabled me to make my own clothes and subsequently quilts.

 AUTUMN (STINGER) DANOFF

I am married to Shay and have a grown stepdaughter, Kim.  I have a son, Anthony,  and my two granddaughters (Bailey, 15, and Wynter, 3), and two stepchildren from my previous marriage. Kim lives in Virginia and the rest of the crew live in California so unfortunately we don't get to see them as often as we would like. We split our time living in Coconut Grove and in our place in the Keys. My sister Summer lives far away in Hawaii, but fortunately sister Spring is right here in Miami where 95 y/o dad still resides.

I am a  Counseling & Counselor Educator. After high school I took classes at community college and then got a job as a flight attendant. I left that job when I married a widower to raise my two stepchildren and my son. When my marriage ended 10 years later I went back to school for the next 10 years and earned a Doctorate in Counseling & Counselor Education. I was the first doctoral student to be published (Journal of Volunteer Administration) in my program.  I was then invited to be an adjunct professor at Barry and St. Thomas University. I was very involved in community service and did pro bono crisis counseling and volunteered as a Guardian Ad Litem.

Some people know their path early on in life and therefore have purpose. I envied that. I have found that it is not always necessary to know exactly where you want to go. Sometimes it comes to you in bits and pieces and when you have enough of those pieces, the picture will emerge as you make your way through life.

In high school I felt lost, now I am found. Sixty-eight was a tumultuous year for our country, but I remember mostly the fun (and not  the schoolwork)....my best friend, my boyfriend, the pep rallies, the football games, the innocence.

I have three great children and three awesome grandsons.

I  was employed in Human Resources.

My greatest accomplishment was raising wonderful children!  I'm also proud of having worked in Human Resources and helping many employees. I am an avid quilter and participate in many charity projects.

I am not as naive as I was in high school.

My fondest memories of high school are loving learning, and Chatonettes with game days and Orange Bowl events.

We have two beautiful and successful daughters.  Jacqui is an administrator at Lake Highland Prep in Winter Park. Amber is the district manager for Massage Envy here in Sarasota.  She was actually my boss for 7 years and we still like each other!

I am most proud of having done many years of volunteering in the public schools when my girls were in school.  I've been married for 48 years.  I enjoyed eight years as manager at Massage Envy before retiring two years ago.  I am a 17-year breast cancer survivor!

It is great to reach a time in your life where you accept yourself and all those around you for exactly who they are.  I don't let little things bother me and set a goal every day to find something to make me smile.

My greatest memory from high school is my friends.

I have two beautiful daughters: Nicole, 31,(the mommy of my two grandsons, 5 and 7, she is also  a chef), and Brittney, 28, a nurse. My grandsons Jacob and Nicolas are a trip-I enjoy the hell out of them. God gave me two daughters knowing I would get extra excitement dealing with these dudes later in life! And the best part of course is the return policy! Both my girls live in Miami and I live in Miami six months of the year - the other part of the year I'm at my cabin  in the Smoky Mountains of  East Tennessee. I retired in December 2012 and stay busy enjoying life.

I've been   divorced since January 2016 - a great run that produced  my beautiful daughters and grandsons. LIFE IS GOOD!

I was the Owner/Administrator of 54th street & 154th street Medical Centers. I managed care/primary care facilities in Miami.

My single biggest accomplishment is my family. I guess you could also say that building my business surrounded by the most dedicated team of physicians and staff is another accomplishment. With them at my side and my family supporting me I was able to become the success that I am today. Lastly, I appreciate my mom and dad-Addie and Eddie-who taught me that with hard work and dedication one can accomplish anything.

Since high school I've gotten a  bit taller! I finally reached 6 foot shortly after graduating, haha!

My  main memory from high school is  being sent to the principal's office a bit too much - I loved being the class clown!

I was a teacher and coach for 40 years.

My greatest accomplishment has been living a good Christian life. I have influenced the lives of many young people.

Since high school  I am no   longer at 120 pounds. All the hair on my legs and chest has relocated to my nose and ears!

My best memory from high school is the band trip to DC. I also remember getting a Whopper, fries and a large Coke for 77 cents.

I have no wife, no kids, no family plans. My brother is a Episcopal priest.

I am a  production designer/art director for film and episodic TV, a fine artist, and a public artist. I just moved back to NY a few months ago. I move a lot between Miami, LA and NY. Why would I retire? No, thank you!

What is my greatest accomplishment?  I have no idea. Check my website and you tell me.

Since high school, I'm pretty much the same. Fun, body conscious, much more creative however.

SUZI HATFIELD OWOCKI

I have been married to Stan Owocki for 35 years.  He is a professor at University of Delaware, and we are fortunate to have many friends and colleagues all around the world.  We have a son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter who live in Louisville, CO.  Stan and I met in Colorado in the 80's, so we love visiting there and may actually retire there someday.  We also have a daughter who is currently in a PhD program at Michigan State University.  We lost our younger son at age 25 to suicide. He suffered from anxiety and depression, and we still mourn his death every day.  However, we also realize that we have many things to be thankful for, and find many positive things in our lives, and those of our friends and family.

I was a nurse and then a Family Nurse Practitioner.

I  think my marriage, raising a family, and my work as a pediatric nurse are my most significant achievements.  In addition, I have volunteered as a nurse with Operation Smile. I've  traveled with them on 29 missions to repair cleft lips and palates in both children and adults.  These trips have taken me to Africa, South America, Asia, and Central America.  Doing this work, I have realized how fortunate we are to live here in the U.S. I have met many wonderful people all around the world.

Since high school I think I have a much broader perception of the world and life in general.  I guess that could also be called "growing up!"   In addition, I weigh a lot more than I did in high school  :-(

My memories from high school are my friends and life in S. Florida.   When I lived in Miami, I thought I always wanted to live in the North (seasons, snow.....)  Now that we've lived in the North and cold weather for a long time, I think I'd love to move back to warm weather during the winter!

I got married in 1971 and moved to Colorado in 1974. I have two children and three grandchildren. We all live within 40 minutes of each other!

I was a   Human Resources Manager.

My greatest accomplishment was raising two great kids who became two unique, wonderful adults!

How have I changed since high school other than getting older? :) I think I'm a lot more confident than I used to be.  I am always looking for new adventures and new places to visit. I love photography and the expression it gives me.

My best memory from high school is   Spring break in the Bahamas with my two best friends, Linda Johnson and Anita Cernogorsky - what a blast!

LEE POPHAM

I was previously married to classmate Peggy Crook. I have six children and four grandchildren:

Lee Jr. - 1969 - Palmetto grad - Lee and Merri live in Miami and have been together for more than 20 years.
Erik - 1976 - Palmetto Grad - Erik and Camilla live in Venice, FL, and have two children - daughter Lorelei 2007 and son Dain 2009.
Laura - 1979 - Palmetto Grad - Laura and Derek Ross live in Asheville, NC, and have two children - sons London 2012 and Beckham 2017.
Hannah - 1990 - Hannah lives in Naples, FL, and recently purchased her first home.
James - 2004 - James attends South Miami Middle School in the Broadcasting Magnet program.
John - 2006 - John attends Ponce de Leon Middle School in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program.
Charlie (Palmetto '68) and Barbara Fancher are the Godparents to all six of my children.

I am a finance executive. Previously, I was a CPA partner at KPMG. None of my children have grown up to be axe murderers - at least, not so far.

I am proud of having been the youngest CPA partner (at age 27) in the history of the "Big 8" CPA firms at the time. I was the Founding Chairman and President of an NASD-listed public company in a self-underwritten exchange offer involving a $250 million acquisition in 1989. I am a Volunteer National Treasurer and Board member of the United States Power Squadrons,  a 30,000-member nonprofit recreational boating education and safety organization, which is America's Boating Club. I am a volunteer Chairman of the National Budget Committee of the national society Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), a nonprofit genealogical society whose members descend from Patriot Ancestors who participated in the American Revolution.

Since high school my hair is still mostly brown - and still mostly there - but I have gained almost another half a person. The friendships I made in high school have lasted a lifetime.

I have 3 daughters and 4 grandchildren. All are a handful!

I am an   Engineer/Project Manager. I have worked in Oceanography  (NOAA), Aerospace  (Boeing & Racebeck Group), and  Construction Management (Miami-Dade County). I enjoy marathon running, skiing, windsurfing, kayaking, trekking. etc. My other hobbies include fruit growing (Past Pres.- Rare Fruit Council Intl.), racing (USA Track & Field, Past VP Miami Runners), and traveling. I    like fine wine.

Since high school I've developed  greater self-confidence, understanding, mindfulness, and compassion. I have less hair on my head (but more in other places).

Well, there was the time when the principal caught me on the school roof retrieving a model rocket, but maybe that was surpassed by the time I burned a hole in Roger Nash's desk by mixing potassium permanganate powder with glycerin. But seriously, most memorable was just hanging out with my best friends.

MAL THOMAS

My wife Johnna (Palmetto Class of '69) and I were married after college in 1973.  We have two daughters, 36 and 29, and one granddaughter, with another one on the way in late May of this year. We live in Orange County, California (26 years) after living in Greenville, SC, Cary, NC, and Tallahassee, FL.  My wife is a graduate of Florida Southern College in Lakeland.  I graduated from USF in Tampa and have an MBA from Florida State University.  One daughter lives near us and the other lives in the Orlando area. We still have family in the Miami area and visit often.  Our families still own the houses we grew up in in Pinecrest and Palmetto Bay areas.

I am not retired.  I own two companies, a building management and maintenance company and  a commercial landscaping company.  I have had a long and varied career, primarily involved with Florida State Government in the 70s. I was a management consultant until the mid 80s and an executive in the facilities business since then.

My most significant achievements have been helping family and friends.  Hopefully I have been a good father, husband,  and grandfather.

Some of my most significant professional accomplishments have been  the author of the Florida Governor's Science Engineering and Technology Study published in 1979. I was on the Board of Directors of Duke University's Fuquay School of Business Management Game and served on the boards of two companies.  I was the CEO  of a large facilities company and the  executive VP of of another large company. I am now currently part owner of  two successful companies (Facility Services Partners, Inc. and Sequoia Environmental Services, Inc.)  FSP has received two national awards for excellence.

I was rather introverted in high school.  My only interest was running track for the school which I continued in college.  I lacked confidence at that time as well. Now am extremely extroverted and have achieved more confidence.  What makes me happy is serving and helping others, treating people with dignity and respect, and taking the high road always.

I ran track for Miami Palmetto, but I was not a joiner of clubs and wish I had participated more.  I feel blessed that I attended Miami Palmetto because it gave me the foundation to be successful later in life.

I met my wife of 44 years in Miami.  Both of us had grown up in part in Miami.  She had gone to UMass and I to Dartmouth, but we both ended up once again in Miami in the mid-seventies.  She is a retired computer consultant.  We had two moves with IBM, one to Atlanta and the second to Boulder, Colorado, where we have been since 1985.  We have two sons: Scott is working for IBM in Manhattan and Alex is in Chicago doing computer engineering for a hedge fund.

I was an engineer and marketing manager for IBM.

My greatest accomplishments are   : Shepherding small to medium size companies into computerization in the 1970s and 1980s;    raising two great sons with a lot of sports coaching along the way; spending 43 years with IBM with only two moves; and, finally, forging a great and lasting partnership with my wife of 40+ years.

Since high school I have  grown from technical competence to leadership competence over the years.

My best memories from high school are running drills in the old gym under Coach Dale Collins.  I was only at Palmetto for my senior year -- I had moved from Houston, Texas.  The basketball team was a ready-made set of new friends in a new school.

I've been married 37 years to Mary Alice. We have two sons  who are 42 and 40 years old with their own families: a boy and girl each, ages 17, 15, 7, and 4.  My oldest son has worked for Raymond James Stock Firm for 15 years. My youngest son has been a realtor for 13 years.  We all live in St. Petersburg within twenty minutes of each other.  We are always together for dinners, holidays, birthdays, etc. and every other year we pick a house somewhere in the USA to rent for a week and all go live together and vacation as a family of ten. My wife and I vacationed in North Carolina for 23 years as we raised our two boys.  Then there was the soccer league we ran for fifteen years with both boys playing.  Many community (political) events over thirty years kept us busy in historic preservation, the neighborhood association, elections, etc.  Even now we are planning a "Cousins" reunion of 40 family members up in Dells, Wisconsin, next year.  It is a good life we have!

I am an  architect, a forensic architect, and a commercial realtor - will never retire.

My greatest accomplishment is my family:   my wife,    my two sons, my two daughters-in-law, and my four grandchildren. I am proud of having earned my AA, BA and Masters in Architecture and being licensed for 41 years. I have never missed  voting in an election. I have raised three  happy, wonderful Yorkshire Terriers over the years. I survived open heart surgery for  a left mitral valve repair in January 2017. I have loved all my uncles, aunts, and grandparents  who have made such an impact on me in my life.  They were all wonderful people. I enjoy working on my house, camping with my sons over the years, and being pretty healthy and active all  my life.

Since high school I have learned to be happy and content with life as it comes, one day at a time. I got a lot smarter in every way.  I embraced a strong work ethic.  I achieved every goal I set, picking them very carefully and making sure they were worth achieving.  I relied more on myself believing that I had the ability to do whatever I wanted to do.  I set goals, and the rest just came along.

My memories from high school include  the beautiful girls.  There is something about youth, the age we were, that made the girls at Palmetto simply the most beautiful girls in the world. I still remember so many of them to this day. The music was unbelievable.  It was a force like no other.  I loved sock hops in the gym and parties with dancing. I remember the last day, the last hour, the last minute of my last class of Honors English as I watched the clock tick down.  I felt like a bird released from its cage.  I got up, walked down stairs, out of the building, got in my 1958 Chevy and drove away.  I have never been back.  I will go on the reunion tour, though.  Can't pass it up.  Curious!

My husband and I were married the month after graduation. He then left for Vietnam. We are celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary in July. When he returned home  a year later, we began our life together. We had two children and made our home in Cutler Bay, which is where we live still.   I now have three beautiful grandchildren.  The oldest grandchild also graduated from Palmetto.

I have been a  homemaker.

My greatest accomplishment has been my family.

How I've changed since high school: gray hair.

I treasure my friendships from high school, many of which I still have.

I've been married to my 2nd wife for 28 years. We are a blended family of four. We have nine grandchildren. We live in Nixa, Missouri. We moved here after we retired and  have been here four years. Our kids are in Ohio, Texas, and North Carolina.

Before I retired, I worked for 25 years as a   Fleet Service Clerk for American Airlines. Nothing spectacular, but I was happy to be able to retire after 25 years with same company. My wife and I are raising our oldest grandson.

Since high school I have lost weight and hair.

I am blessed to have the same wonderful  man in my life. We started dating in 1977 and married in 1985. Our two daughters are successful businesswomen and adventurous in life. One is a project manager for Charles Schwab and the other is the event planner for Greenhouse Scholars, a Boulder nonprofit.

Both myself and my best friend in high school, Jody Shotwell Scott, were 8 months pregnant with our second child at the time of our 20th Palmetto reunion. She had too far to travel, but I was able to attend.  We did have our babies only hours apart on October 13, 1988!!!

Babies get in the way again as my daughter is due with our first grandchild during this reunion schedule. All of you with grandchildren know the joy of this time and will forgive me for not sharing and renewing old friendships.

When  I worked, I was a labor and delivery nurse. Aside from the raising of two amazing daughters, I have great satisfaction from knowing I helped several thousand women go through one of the greatest and self empowering experiences of their lives.

How have I changed since high school? Who hasn't! I have 2 grey hairs (ahem). The greatest difference is being so much more physically active. Leaving the heat and humidity of Florida was like waking up into life. Hiking the mountains of Colorado and fishing its waters have been a joy. Just take a deep breath. The altitude is surprising.

Can you believe we Chatonettes participated in the Super Bowl Halftime Show in the Orange Bowl?  It gave us a few bragging rights!

I've been married to a wonderful woman since 1999. It took me a few tries to get it right. I've lived in the Dallas-Ft. Worth  area since 1983, in a town called Keller. I have one stepson who is a computer whiz.

I worked for  FedEx, where I held several positions: management, ramp agent, courier, and cargo handler. In 1991 I retired from the Navy/Air Force reserves after 22 years.  I retired from FedEx after 32 1/2  years.   I've stayed out of jail so far, haha.

My  personality since high school hasn't changed that much. I still have a sense of humor.  Physically of course I have changed..heavier, grayer and less hair!! But I'm pretty much the same guy.

I remember  driving the '59 Chevy Bel-Aire to school  with my good friend Mark Faulkey, and the adventures we shared. Mr. Smith's (I think) biology class with the dreaded frog dissection....

I met my husband right after I moved to Atlanta in 1972. We got married in January, 1974. Our daughter, Rebecca, is 35 and lives in Athens, GA, with her husband Clay and their three children. Our son, Sky, is 32 and lives in Milledgeville, GA, and has a sweet girlfriend, Elizabeth.

I was a flight attendant with Eastern Air Lines from 1972-1990, then taught first grade and kindergarten for 20 years. I retired in 2010.

I'm proud of making a difference in the lives of my students and, most of all, my wonderful family.

All of the people that I've met and the experiences that I've had have certainly had an impact on me, but I think that I'm pretty much the same person that I was way back then.

Fond memories from high school include   Spanish class - Some of us took Spanish 1 in junior high, so we went all the way through Spanish 5 (I think!) together. Steve Taylor and David Johnson, I think you got me in trouble more than a few times in Senora Pedroso's class! In history class we spent a lot of time on the senior patio. I think that made it easy to skip school to go check out the stock exchange. Bill Miller, my dad would have hurt us both if we had been caught! I had LOTS of fun at slumber parties and talking on the phone for hours, cruising around town, going to the beach ...

David and I were married October 9, 1971 and will be celebrating our 47th Anniversary in October. WOW!! We have two children, Rick, 39,   and Amanda, 37.    We have five beautiful grandchildren: Rick's two boys, Caleb (8)  and Justin (3).  Amanda has three children: Madison (5, aka "The Princess"), Ryan (3), and Jackson (2).  They all  live in the area, so we get to see them several times a week. I am a full time Nana and am truly blessed to have them so close by.

I was a stay-at-home mom, then I was an  office manager/bookkeeper for a medical supply company. I was also a substitute teacher for Highlands Christian Academy. I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior  on January 6, 1975, and He changed my life. He forgave me for all the horrible things I had done and I am eternally grateful.

My most significant memory from high school is  singing in the choir with Dr. Dale Willoughby. Our choir made  a recording at Vizcaya for a Christmas album. I also remember performing in the Singing Christmas Tree.  Being the angel on top was kinda scary when Dale announced his engagement and everyone stood up and cheered. The chair that I was sitting on began to sway! My other significant memory from high school is my friendship with Debbie Hemmings Cone that has remained through college until now, even though we live so far away from each other.

I've been married to Diane for 28 years. Diane has her own art gallery  here in Fresno, CA. We have five children between us; the  youngest is 23, working on his Masters at Fresno State while teaching a class there. We have six grandchildren.

I worked in maintenance at State Center Community College.

My greatest accomplishments are  meeting and marrying my wife, and my family. I'm proud that I got up and went to work for the last 50 years. I provided for my family, and my kids went on to lead good lives and have good families of their own. To a lesser degree I am proud of  getting my pilots' license. I bought a 1945 taildragger in Ohio and barnstormed back to Fresno, which took Diane and me two weeks. We slept under the wing at night while having the adventure of a lifetime.

Since high school I have developed   a   little more self confidence and a little more maturity.

In high school I had significant teenage angst. I also had some awesome adventures, including going to Sebring.

I married Mike, a returned Peace Corps volunteer,  in 1972. Young, yes?! We married at the Women's Club in Gainesville, then headed up to Madison, WI, for four years and later to  San Francisco, and finally--here in Illinois.

We have two wonderful kids and three grandchildren.

Before I retired I was a teacher. I have to say that I loved the classroom, but equally  if not more important--it  is the experience of "family" and, as well, the many friendships that have evolved over these past 50 years. I remember vividly  the fabulous individuals that I got to know at Miami Palmetto  H.S.

NANCY (PECKHAM) BURCHIK

I've been married to my husband Mike for 36 years. We have one son, Brian, who is 33 and married to Erin. They have 4 adopted children ages 9, 6, 5 and 3 - two girls and two boys. They live about 10 minutes from us so we're able to watch them grow!

I retired from teaching in 2015. I taught for 35 years-mostly kindergarten. I had a  long and rewarding teaching career. I am happy I was able to find the right career niche for myself.

My greatest accomplishments are being a proud parent of a terrific son; being married to the same guy for 36 years (and not killing each other); being Nana to four cute grandkids.

Since high school, like everyone else, I grew up!

I'd have to say what I remember most is all the fun of cheerleading. I didn't start high school at Palmetto so becoming a cheerleader helped me to get to know a lot more people.

I've been married  44 yrs to my college sweetheart at Florida State University, Becky Thompson Black.  We have two children: Jason (37) is married and is a PA  in Denver, CO; Jennifer (33) is an RN in Atlanta, GA.  Becky and I currently live on Lake Hartwell in South Carolina.

I am a   Department of Defense civilian after completing a 20-year Army career.

My greatest accomplishments are:    1) my family, of whom I'm extremely proud; 2) I served my country for over 40 yrs in peace and war.

Since high school I'd like to say I've grown up; however, I don't know that any of our current friends would agree.  That said, I think I've become more compassionate, more responsible, more focused on family and community, and more focused on living a more purposeful life. In terms of significant memories from high school, I can't narrow it down to one!

BARBARA (SMOAK) SMITH

I have a daughter, Jennifer, who lives in Idaho. She has two children,  Claudia (5) and Ainsley (3). My son Alan lives in Atlanta, GA. I am currently living in Palm Harbor, Florida. I was a teacher for 31 years. My family and my career have certainly been my most significant achievements. My positive personality and smile have not changed, however, I do have short white hair to show for the 50 years. I am certainly wiser than I was in high school. I was a majorette with the band. I loved the half time shows at football games!

DEBBY (KATZMAN) LEGGETT

I met my husband, Enoch, in September 1972.  We will be married 45 years in March.  We have two sons, Ben (41) and Solomon (40).  Ben has two children and Solomon has four. The oldest is 8, so we keep  busy with the grands.  We also have three canine fur babies and  eight feline fur babies. All are rescues and fixed.  We raise as many of our own veggies as possible (organic) and live a fairly quiet life.  I have lived in Georgia foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains since I left college. I can't imagine living back in a city.

Before I retired I was a teacher, then a Spanish interpreter. Our two sons are the most significant achievement I can think of - both are Eagle Scouts and fine husbands and fathers.  What could be more significant than that?! I am no longer a "city" girl.  Just give me the quiet mountains and I am content.

What I remember most from high school, truthfully, is the oppressive heat in the classrooms.  Maybe Spanish class was the best, as it led to the livelihood  which I enjoyed the most.

I married Nancy Russo of Tampa after graduating from FSU.  We've been married 45 years.  Nancy is an elementary school principal at the public school on MacDill AFB.  She will retire shortly after the reunion. We have one daughter, Robin.  She is married to Don Stewart, who she met in Boston.  She went to Boston College where I sent all my money.  They have a son, Owen, who is a great and handsome young man.  They live near us in Tampa.  Nancy's mom is still living and now lives with Nancy and me.

I was a United States Air Force Officer.  I had a 30-year Air Force career.  I navigated on the C-5 aircraft. I spent 22 years as an Aircraft Maintenance and Logistics Officer.  I commanded six Air Force organizations.  I earned an MBA and taught leadership, communications, management and military principles at Air University. I have travelled to most of the world. Overseas, I've lived in Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Italy.  In the US I've lived in Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama, New Mexico, Virginia, and Tampa.  I served as the Chief of Staff for the Chief of Logistics (J4) US CENTCOM during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Since high school,   I hope I've gotten a little smarter.

My most vivid memory from high school is  making two long shots in a basketball game, one at the end of the half and one at the end of the game.  We won by four.

I  am married  to Dave. I had two sons. My oldest son, MIchael, passed away when he was 13 years old. My youngest son, Brian, is a 6th grade social studies teacher. My husband is a retired Precision Machinist. We don't have any grandchildren but we have a bunch of wonderful nieces and nephews!

I am a  lab Assistant at Quest Diagnostics. I completed my BA at a later age and am very proud of it. I have traveled internationally more than I ever thought I would.

Since high school,  I am more self-confident. I know who I am and I like myself! I remember the school bus rides and walking to the bus stops which most kids don't do today. I remember all the friends I had. I also remember thinking I was part of a dynamic group and it was good. I was not popular and I wasn't on any teams or groups - I was just part of the "others that were."

I am single. I have no children but have frequent contact with four siblings and two nieces.

I am   a   University (Medical School) Professor. Professor of Neurology, Thomas Whigham/Joseph Berger Chair in Neuro-AIDS Research, Miller School of Medicine University of Miami; Associate Chief of Miami VA Medical Center Neurology service (retired as of 2017); Founder and Director, Miami VA Multiple Sclerosis Center of Excellence program (retired as of 2017).

Family contacts would probably say I have not changed that much.  Certainly I am physically older.  I probably don't work that hard, but have only recently slowed down over the past year in that respect.

Intellectual interests and drive that were developed in high school have stayed with me.  Classmates were so talented and accomplished.

Senior year (1967-1968) was full of memorable competitions (e.g. Silver Knight), and activities.

I've been married for 25 years to an Irish Catholic from Chicago. My Dad was also from Chicago.  I have two adult stepchildren-one in Ft. Lauderdale and one in Los Angeles.  My brother Steve, class of 1970, lives in Atlanta with his 18-year-old son.  My sister Nancy, class of 1972 (I think she graduated!) is married and lives in Ft. Payne, AL. After Palmetto I went to U of Alabama, then to architectural school at Auburn University.    I have been in Pensacola since 1981.  We are currently "petless" for the first time ever and are looking for a new lab puppy to add to the family.

Who's retired??!  I am an interior designer.

My  accomplishments: Staying married for 25 years and being happy! I was in a movie in Prague and learned I could travel alone, and I love it.  Last year I shattered my shoulder and accidently discovered I had a pulmonary embolism at the same time. Somehow I survived them both with no effects.  Apparently I am meant to be here for a while.

I am not the painfully shy person I once was in high school.

My high school memories include the LOOK magazine article written about Palmetto, and somehow standing up for myself when a Trig teacher refused to call me by Luann. Carol is my first name and he insisted he was going to use it.  Oh, and my turquoise Mustang- I wish I had it now!

We live in Charlottesville, VA, and Miami (part time) now.

I was born in Charlottesville, and moving back here after retirement is the best.  It is incredibly gorgeous and historical here. Both of my daughters-Torie,   and   Tiffany and her son Tate-live in Virginia.  Tiffany is one of three professional developers in Fairfax County's Educational Administration Office.  Torie is pursuing her Masters  degree  in clinical counseling at Marymount University. I travel some, volunteer some, and just relax. My husband, Bob, plays golf as much as he can!

My accomplishments include having been a registered nurse  and raising two compassionate daughters, by far! I jumped off a 33-foot cliff into a lagoon in Hawaii! I am grateful for having the opportunity to travel far and wide. I have served on the board of many volunteer organizations.

My high school memories include  good friends and a lot of laughter!

I remember going to Key Biscayne and  Matheson hammock after school. I transferred  in as junior, and  was treated so well and made many friends. There was a    teachers' strike. I remember dress codes for girls and boys.

My daughter Gini, a University of Tennessee graduate, works for Baptist Hospital in Memphis. Son Michael, a University of Memphis graduate, former bond trader, currently a District Manager for CaptiveAire Systems and RuppAire.

I am proud to be the father of two wonderful children and to have    a wonderful woman put up with me for the many years of our marriage.

Since high school I my hair has turned grey, and  I've gotten  much wiser.

My high school memories include Friday night football; beating Miami High in 10th grade, then running to the team bus dodging bottles and rocks from angry MHS fans; passing out in biology class and having Faye Boyd revive me with ammonia; water skiing with Lee Popham and Steve Taylor; surfing at South Beach; playing football on the flats at Matheson Hammock; drivers' ed with Coach Chwalik.

Jim and I met at FSU and got married after my graduation in 1972 ...coming up on 46 years - how can that be?  We moved to Atlanta partly because we wanted out of Florida...somewhere with hills and seasons. We still love it.  We have 2 kids, Jimmy (43) and Heidi (40).  Jimmy, wife Christie, and three daughters live in Houston-Christie is an engineer at Johnson Space Center.  Heidi and husband Drake live in Coral Gables with their three sons and one daughter.  They have lived there almost 5 years and much to my surprise love it!   They work with campus ministries.  So with seven grandchildren, ages 2 - 13, and my 93-year-old dad still living....we are on the road a lot, and very blessed that we can do so.

I taught elementary school in Atlanta for just 2 years - then the kids came along and I became a fulltime mom.  Then I was a full-time volunteer at their schools.  Loved it all. Jim and I are amazed that we are the parents of such wonderful, godly, smart, good-looking and fun people.  Wish we could take any of the credit for it, but we know better.   We have been blessed beyond what we deserve, and we are indeed grateful.

Besides the gray hair, reading glasses, and extra pounds I certainly hope I have gained wisdom.  Because of my faith, my experiences, and people who have influenced  me,  my worldview is one that has made me more compassionate, more involved with others, and not so self-centered.   Life definitely is not just about me.

Being a Chatonette all three years at PHS - by far my best memories center around all that entailed.  Football games, Orange Bowl parades, Washington DC trip, powder puff football game against the majorettes, practices both on the field, and  parades through the surrounding neighborhood and Suniland parking lot, Homecoming.....and of course the wonderful friendships.

BILL MILLER

I was married for 35 years and am now divorced.  My former wife and I are still good friends.  We have two sons,  Bill IV and John.  Unlike their dad, both were Phi Beta Kappa. Bill IV now works with me in the investment business;  John followed his academic instincts and got a PhD in Victorian Literature and teaches at Allegheny College in Pennsylvania. Both are married and both have two kids, resulting in four grandchildren, three boys and a girl. I also have a 9-year-old bulldog named Jake who is both the handsomest and smartest bulldog in America, though admittedly the standard there is not high.

I run an investment firm called Miller Value Partners in Baltimore, which manages about $2.5 billion.  I spent over 30 years at Legg Mason, a large global money management firm where I ran their flagship fund and was CEO of their largest equity subsidiary.  The route to investments was a bit circuitous as I spent several years as a military intelligence officer during the Vietnam war, then went to grad school at Johns Hopkins to get a PhD in philosophy with the idea of becoming a college professor. After finishing the course work and qualifying exams and before starting the dissertation, I concluded that two or three more years of study would only put me into a bleak job market, so I dropped out and in due course went into the investment business. That was easily the best career decision I ever made.

I would not quite call my kids an achievement, since they would probably have turned out fine in any case, but seeing them healthy, happy, and prospering is very rewarding.  On the business side, I was about as lucky as anyone could be.  Somehow things turned out better than I had any right to expect, although I did badly enough in the financial crisis to cure me of any idea that I had any ability to avoid big losses. Achievements included beating the S&P 500 for a record 15 years in a row, being named Fund Manager of the Year in 1998 and Fund Manager of the Decade in 1999 and Greatest Money Manager of the 1990s by Money Magazine. Barron's also named me to its All Century Investment Team in 1999.  Proving that is some redemption after a financial crisis, in 2015 I received the Sauren Golden Award as the best US money manager.

Since high school  I have much less hair, much more weight.  I also like to think I am less judgmental and more forgiving.

Most memorable recollection:  Giving up a grand slam home run to lose the Coral Gables game in the last inning.  That was followed by Coach Chwalik announcing at the athletic assembly that I had been the team's best pitcher until I fell in love, and then was pretty ineffective after that.  I feel fortunate to attend such a great school and to know and be friends with so many wonderful people.

Married for 20 years, and single for the past 26 years, I live in Panama City, Florida. Truly blessed and fulfilled, I have four wonderful children: Kathryn, Patrick, Matthew and Andrew, three incredible in-law children and two grand-boys.

-Kathryn (UCF grad) and husband Cliff (FSU grad) live in Panama City and have two little boys; a 5-year old and an 18-month-old. Kathryn is a Speech-Language Pathologist and Cliff holds dual engineering degrees as a Civil Engineer and a Geotechnical Engineer and oversees employees with Dewberry Engineering.

-  Patrick, my first son, passed away in infancy.

-  Matthew (Auburn grad) has a degree in Aviation Management with a Commercial Pilot License from Auburn. He is a pilot for Delta. He and wife, Iris, live in Atlanta.

-  Andrew (UCF grad) has a degree in Hospitality and Hotel Management. He and wife Sarah, live in Titusville. Andrew is with Edward Jones Investments, and Sarah is an optometrist specializing in those with severely impaired vision. At this writing, she is scheduled to be on the Today show in late April.

Comfortable and happy in rich family traditions, we love to travel and to be immersed in nature, enjoying each other's company.

Graduating from FSU with a degree in Elementary Education, my career as an educator began in Panama City, Florida. Through the years there came a transition from elementary to adult education. I served as County Resource Teacher for the departments of School Improvement and Curriculum and Instruction, as well as being an Instructional Trainer for the State of Florida. Joining the staff at Beacon Educator, I served as writer, weblicator, and facilitator of integrated units of study and college level staff development courses for teachers across the state of Florida seeking alternative certification, as well as add-on endorsements.

Retired, I enjoy time with family and the grand-boys and traveling. I am a landscape and macro photography enthusiast. The natural settings of Creation are foundational catalysts for my inspiration. Grace is my motivation. It is  humbling to be published, a featured artist, and to have my work in shows.    Most significant in my life is God's presence and grace, empowering me to single-handedly (with Him) raise three children and achieve camaraderie and close-knit bonds between us as a family. Deeply blessed by the relationships with my children, the joy extends to my son-in-law and two daughters-in-law.  That said, though, I believe the best is yet to come.

Fun Facts ~ These are funny quirks of life...not achievements:

During the two years at Miami Dade College where I earned an AA Degree, I was Miss South Campus, Miss Coral Gables, a Miami Dolphins cheerleader, an Orange Bowl Princess, and in the Miss Florida Pageant.  Hahahaha! Who would've guessed!

Not as timid and as unsure as in high school, I appreciate who I am in Christ Jesus, and find that I am comfortable in most any situation. The Lord transforms, and I learned that the risk to remain tight in a bud is more painful than the risk to blossom.

Mr. Alvarez' Spanish class was enjoyable and not the dread I thought a foreign language class would be. As a writer, I learned most from Mrs. Sheridan's literature class. Chatonettes was the fun stuff, though..corps member, officer, and choreographing routines in the band room. Half time shows, train trip to Washington and Orange Bowl Parades were such fun and so memorable.

I am married to Joanne, who holds a Bachelor's degree, a Master's degree, and a Doctorate in Nursing since 1982. We have six children ages 29-34.

We have three grandchildren  ages 1 month to 2 years--with more on the way.

I am  a  physician and biomedical engineer-still working full time.  I am Research Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering, Radiology, and Family Medicine at the University of Miami. I also  work in tissue engineering and development of artificial internal organs.

Member, Florida Board of Medicine for 11 years, Chairman for two terms.
Consultant--Radiological Devices Panel--Food and Drug Administration
Director of Radiology Florida Medical Center since 1979.

I am not as quiet and laid back as I was in high school.

What I remember from high school years is the total lack of drugs other than cigarette smoking, the excellent teachers, the large class size of 864 students. I believe those of us who went to Palmetto got a great education in the public school system.

I have been married 41 years to my husband, Randy Gonzalez.  We have three children ages 37, 35, and 28: Kimberly, Kristin, and Randy, Jr.  My oldest daughter has three children, all boys, 9, 6, and 1 year old, Connor, Christopher, and Carson.  All three of our children work for the family business, an import company here in Miami.   I worked for Tinsley Advertising Agency. I guess I could say raising three good kids and having a wonderful family was my greatest accomplishment!

I have  no idea how I've changed since high school! I think I'm the same, just older!

From high school, mostly I remember   just lots of laughs and good friends, one of whom is still my best friend after all these years, Sue Gaylor!

I'm married and have three children, two sons and a daughter.  My daughter is married and has one beautiful, fabulous child, my granddaughter.

I met my husband in Germany while we were both in the Army.  After his retirement, he worked for defense contractors in the DC area and then served as a Deputy Undersecretary of the Army at the Pentagon.  He now runs his own company which involves project management in the Middle East.

I am presently a senior staff attorney at the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals in Falls Church, Virginia. After graduating college, I lived in London and worked as a model.  Later, I returned to the US and attended law school. I joined the Army's Judge Advocate General's Corp (JAGC) and served on active duty in what was then West Germany for three years.  I stayed active in the Army Reserve, and, among other assignments, worked on the renegotiation of the Status of Forces Agreement in Germany after reunification.

Well...I have  three biological sons, four step-children, eleven grand-kids, and two great-grandkids.I also now have three adopted kids, 21, 19 and 11. They are family members that had nowhere to go starting 14 years ago..

I am married to a wonderful lady. She is a hardworking administrative nurse.

I bounced around trying to be a Renaissance Man for a long time. For the bulk of the 20 years before I retired, I worked with delinquent and disadvantaged youth in residential programs.

My most significant achievements have been in the social services field.  I was Chairman of the Board for the Department of Human Services in Rockford, Il.. Over the last twelve years I have spent a lot of time with Boy Scouts: camping, teaching archery, and serving on the advisory council for a Cub pack and a Scout Troop.

Since high school   I have changed in appearance.  The guy in the mirror has lost most of his hair, and filled in a rounder belly.

I am a little more conservative in my politics and more laid back in my personal life.  I stopped drinking as a public service in 1973. I loved high school. I was fortunate to have many people in my "circle" who were unpretentious, supportive and fun. Of special note were Jim Snyder, Mike Hock and Steve Brown.  I loved playing football and wrestling. A significant moment came when after a particularly difficult and exhausting wrestling match at Miami Springs, our principal, who was watching, helped me off the mat and hugged me along with the team. It's a moment I will never forget.

I have been very lucky personally and professionally. I have one daughter, who practices Pediatric Gastroenterology in New York and Connecticut. She has three children, ages 8, 6, and 2. I also have a stepson who is a screenwriter living in Seattle and expecting his first child in June. My wife Victoria and I also have a great son-in-law (a New York financier) and daughter-in-law (a PhD researcher in infectious diseases).

I am presently a practicing attorney.

Besides my family, I have been lucky through the years to have been a partner at three major law firms (two in San Francisco and now in Seattle) and have represented a wide range of interesting clients, running from major corporations to successful entrepreneurs and nonprofits. I've developed some financial services products that millions of people use and have helped people grow their businesses and hire people. I've also been active in numerous professional organizations and served on an advisory council to the Federal Reserve. I toyed with the idea of running for public office, but never did so.

I think I am still pretty much the same-enjoying new things and being active in positive activities.

There are many memorable moments from high school, but I do remember reading Shakespeare plays in Col. E.G. Piper's class and speaking with history teacher Mr. Earl Orme about "Anything goes in Macau!" Coach Barry Zimbler tried to make me into a wrestler, but that was a lost cause!

I met my husband, Jerry, at Mississippi State University. We have been married for 46 years. We have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. Our daughter, Julie, and her family live near us in Birmingham. Julie is a teacher and she and Mark have 3 children: Parker (15), Mallory (13), and Walker (10). Our son, Patrick, and his wife Julie live in Memphis and have 2 boys: Bennett (8) and Graham (5). Patrick is an engineer. We have lived in Birmingham since 1984. Jerry recently retired from the insurance industry.

I studied social work at Mississippi State and worked in child welfare for the state of Mississippi for 5 years. After the children were born, I stayed at home for a few years. I then became the Children's Director at our church. At the age of 40, I returned to graduate school and obtained a degree in special education. I taught children with special needs for the next 20 years, retiring in 2011. Since retirement, I've been involved with a nonprofit dental clinic that serves low-income patients. We also spend lots of time with grandchildren and all their activities.

My highest "achievement" is being blessed with a wonderful family. We have lots of fun being together. Our grandchildren bring us much joy and laughter. We are grateful for good health and energy to keep up with them!

Lots of changes since high school but I suppose I'm the same person I've always been, just older and wiser! I'm sure I have more self-confidence; I'm more of an extrovert than I was in high school. I've realized I can't save the world but I can try and make a difference one person at a time.

Miami was a great place to grow up in the 60s. My parents moved to Tallahassee while I was in college so I haven't spent much time in Miami since high school. My memories are good ones...an easy, carefree way of life! Palmetto was a great experience.

I am married to Richard and we have 3 grown sons; Adam, Douglas, and Gregory. We have lived in Madison, WI, for over 30 years, and since we retired are spending winters in Tucson, AZ.

Before I retired I was a high school special ed teacher.

My achievements are being a good mom and sharing the responsibilities of parenting and homemaking with my husband. I also received much satisfaction in working as a teacher of students with disabilities. Working with an exceptionally talented and dedicated faculty was very rewarding. As a retiree, I enjoy gardening, tennis, painting, and spending time with friends and family.

I have become much more empathetic and have learned deeper and more meaningful values that enable me to live a rich and happy life. But I so enjoyed the wonderful friends who helped make the turbulent teen years bearable and fun.

I would have to  say my favorite memory from high school  is hanging out with my friends since I was very social, I think.

My parents live in Perrine.   My brother lives by Knoxville, TN.  My cousin, Jennifer Vosters Kaloti (MPHS '79), lives near Dadeland.  I've been married 44 years to Frances Pearson Overdyke. We have two sons (Ryan - 40, Eddie - 37) and two grandsons (Carter- 7, Asher - 2) and granddaughter Carmen - 5.

I am a project Manager at ATT.

My most significant personal achievement is my family (see above). Professionally, I'm proud to have been  involved in building a global telecom network for BellSouth International. Another source of personal satisfaction is my   involvement    in youth sports.

Since high school I have gained weight and my hair has turned gray.  I didn't realize Nutrament was a time release formula. I couldn't keep weight on in high school, now I can't keep it off.   I have realized my blessings that for years I took for granted.

My most memorable recollection from high school is Coach Walt Chwalik (RIP). He was my baseball coach and a wonderful person.

My  family owned   Zipp Sporting Goods owner and my father, Monroe Zipp, passed away in my arms, as did my mother, Edith Zipp, a teacher and fashion model. Brothers and Palmetto HS graduates Paul Zipp and Robert (Bob) Zipp have also passed, and I've worked with Hospice since the mid-80s.

Before I retired I was in the field of communications.

My most significant achievement has been working nearly 50 years in affiliation with the United Nations through dialogues on peace, culture and education, and producing global events with sustainable living, human rights and conflict resolution being a priority.

Older and wiser, I'm living in Northern California with a rich spiritual life and a handsome 'Good Friend' for over 40 years. Organic gardening feeds us daily with fruit and vegetables and yes, it's California so there are a few nuts!

There are a few significant memories I have from high school. Band is one of them. A teacher whose name I've forgotten helped me understand politics and the Vietnam War. I remember listening to guitars strumming on the lawn with a few guys who were letting their hair grow. I remember getting a good education with Latin and vocabulary offered in a time before discipline became a priority. I remember our school being featured on the cover of Life or Look magazine. An English teacher whose name I've forgotten gave us great books to read, turned us onto music, and invited us to her apartment to continue philosophical chats. I fondly remember my best friend Maureen (Reenie) who I last saw decades ago in LA. Finally, I remember being on WFUN radio as the weekly Palmetto High School Reporter, which led to a career of hosting radio music, news and interview programs including one with John Lennon and Yoko Ono Lennon. Ahhh, the music scene of the 60s was memorable for us all!

I am  married, our son and daughter are living and working in Orlando.

I have been self employed in several different occupations.

My most significant achievements have been  raising our kids in a happy, fun and cheerful environment, building our house and a successful business, and volunteering for various organizations and causes.

Since high school I've become more outgoing, communicative, and not as shy as when I was in school. I think I've also become smarter.

My good memories from high school are my close friends, football games, P.E., and some of the teachers.

I married Ingrid in 1993. She is of Swedish heritage and is an interior designer. Ingrid beautifully remodeled our current home. We cared for my invalid father for ten years, and after his passing, we cared for my mother for two years. We are now caring for Ingrid's mother who lives with us. Our children consist of an obstinate though extremely bright Belgian Malinois and a 22-pound black tomcat.

After graduation form UNC-Chapel Hill I worked at both the 1972 Republican and Democratic conventions in Miami Beach. I was a media liaison for the City of Miami Beach. Our booth was adjacent to the Secret Service booth. One day I was in conversation with one of the agents discussing job possibilities when someone grabbed me from behind and greeted me as "Hi cousin." It was Abbie Hoffman. He gained admittance as a journalist for Popular Mechanics magazine. He was married to my cousin Anita. The last time I saw him was when I attended the Chicago Eight trial in Chicago. Needless to say my hopes of entering the service were dashed.

After the conventions, I worked as a caseworker for HUD in the Liberty City and ghetto area of then-deteriorating downtown Miami. A year later a college friend encouraged me to come to San Diego. Fell in love with San Diego. After teaching tennis for a short period of time, I was hired by the City of San Diego Building Inspection Department as a structural engineer in training. While working at the City full time, I attended early morning structural engineering classes and went to law school in the evenings.

Upon graduation from law school, I was in private practice for twenty years as a real estate transactional attorney and litigator.
In the wake of the RTC debacle, I formed La Jolla Realty Advisors, a commercial real estate brokerage firm, to focus on land transactions primarily in San Diego.

I  am a former managing partner for land development companies in Texas, Arizona and California. In addition to commercial brokerage, I currently own and operate investment properties. I recently began working with some of my real estate cronies in the development of a real estate app we hope will be launched this year or early 2019.

My significant achievements include attending the Olympics, the US Open Tennis Tournament, and the World Series in the same calendar year.  I'm also proud of the fact that  I trained my dog to dribble a soccer ball with his paws.

Since high school, as have all of you, I've lost some very close friends over the years and am starting to reflect back on the journey.

I grew up with the understanding that I would graduate from high school, attend college, get a job, meet the man of my dreams, marry, have children, and live happily ever after! What was I thinking? I got the graduating from college and getting a job part right.....thank goodness!   I   settled for the wrong person to marry and survived many failed relationships so have no children. However, I can truly say that I am living happily ever after! I am able to enjoy the families of my three sisters, Karol, M.E., and Martha. Unfortunately, I lost my Mom and Dad when they were both in their 70’s and my youngest sister Martha passed away from pancreatic cancer five years ago.

I graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in elementary education, taught 6 years in Ocala, Florida and 14 years in Stuart, Florida. I retired as an elementary assistant principal.

Considering that I was a shy teenager with very little confidence in myself, I think that going away to college, graduating with a Masters in Elementary Education, and eventually being certified in Educational Leadership were significant achievements. Becoming an Assistant Principal at a brand new elementary school also ranks on top of the list.   Currently I serve on the Boards of the local Environmental Studies Center and the Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast.

I don’t have an inferiority complex. I am not shy. I am confident, outgoing and happy being ME!

My most memorable recollection from high school is staying home from school pretending I was sick, so I didn’t have to dissect a frog!

ROD TIMANUS

My family are all    gone now except for my little sister Anne.

Before I retired I was a writer and illustrator of Old West history.

My accomplishments:
Surviving Viet Nam as a Combat Infantryman.
Becoming a father to a beautiful daughter.
Surviving the death of my wife.
Graduating from college.
Winning the Academy of Western Artists award for one of my Western History books.
Surviving the Arizona climate (and loving it).

Since high school I have a lot more scars and a few more wrinkles. But, that comes with age, wisdom, and determination.

What I remember best from high school is posing for the Art Club yearbook photo with my dog, Cecil.
